#4 Women's Lacrosse Rolls to 14-2 Non-League Victory Against Keene State

MEDFORD - Sophomore Kate Mackin continued her great start to the 2015 season with four goals and two assists leading the #4 Tufts women's lacrosse team to a 14-2 victory over Keene State under the lights at Bello Field Wednesday night.

Caroline Ross' three goals contributed to an 11-1 first half for Tufts

Mackin, who leads Tufts with 16 goals, five assists and 21 points through four games, scored all four of her goals in the first half as the Jumbos built an 11-1 lead. Junior tri-captain Caroline Ross added three goals, senior Lindsey Walker netted two and sophomore Caroline Kingsley had two assists as Tufts built its commanding lead.

It took the Jumbos more than five minutes to get on the scoreboard, but once they did the goals came quickly. Ross scored the first at 24:45 to start a 5-0 run that spanned 1:35. Tufts would tally five free-position goals in the first half.

Keene scored its only goal of the first half when junior Emily Silegy tallied off an assist from sophomore Jenna Bellano with 6:32 remaining until halftime.

The second half was played in running time as the Jumbos led by 10 or more goals throughout. Senior Annie Nero and first-year Calie Nowak scored to put Tufts up 13-1 before first-year Tori Weinstock was assisted by Taylor Graf for the second Owl goal at 6:13 of the second half.

Junior Brigid Bowser added two goals, an assist and five draw controls for Tufts (4-0). Senior tri-captain Emily Wright won three draws, caused two turnovers and picked up two groundballs. Sophomore Casey Briody led the hosts with three groundballs. The Jumbos finished 16-2 on draw controls and had a 35-5 advantage in shots.

Three Tufts goalies played, with senior Rachel Gallimore getting the start and the win with two saves.

For Keene (0-4), sophomore Alison Argiro played well in goal with 12 saves. Sophomore Amanda Makar caused two turnovers while first-year Tara Kilderry and sophomore Gretchen Faulstich led with three GBs apiece.

Tufts returns to NESCAC action and closes a four-game homestand on Saturday at 2 pm against Colby. Keene heads south to Florida and will play a spring break game versus Vassar on Sunday at 5 pm.
