Women's Lacrosse Overcomes 7-3 Halftime Deficit at Stevenson for 11-10 Win

OWINGS MILLS, MD - The Tufts University women's lacrosse team scored four unanswered goals in the final 17 minutes of regulation to finish off an 11-10 comeback win at Stevenson on Thursday afternoon. The Jumbos trailed 7-3 at halftime before turning the game around.

Caroline Kingsley scored the go-ahead goal on a free-position shot with 7:54 remaining. Senior Brigid Browser won the ensuing draw and the Jumbos drained nearly four minutes off the clock. After Stevenson finally cleared, Tufts freshman goalie Audrey Evers made a save on Mustang Molly Gonzalez with 3:51 remaining. Each team had one more possession, but the Jumbos were able to post the win.

Tufts, ranked #14 nationally, stopped a three-game losing streak and improved to 3-3 overall. The Mustangs dropped to 2-6.

Tufts out-scored Stevenson 8-3 in the second half, led by two goals from Taylor Meek and a goal with an assist by Caroline Ross. Bowser and Ross led Tufts overall with two goals and an assist each in the game, while Meek and freshman Cecily Freliech both scored twice.

Stevenson's Olivia Monteiro with three goals and an assist was the game-high scorer. Both Hollie Larrimore and Brady Heher also scored three goals for the Mustangs.

The Jumbos led 2-1 on Ross' first goal at 18:37 of the first half. However, a three-goal run by Stevenson which started on back-to-back tallies by Heher gave the hosts a 4-2 lead at 13:54. Freliech scored for Tufts at 12:41, but the Mustangs closed the half with three straight led by Monteiro's goal and assist.

Tufts got started on its comeback right away in the second half as Meek scored just 10 seconds into the action. That started a three-goal spurt which pulled Tufts within 7-6 on freshman Courtney Grygiel's first career goal at 23:01.

Stevenson regrouped and scored three of the next four goals for a 10-7 advantage with 17:14 on the second-half clock. Larrimore score the second two goals of the stretch. Freleich's second of the game at 16:37 followed by a Meek goal just 17 seconds later made it a 10-9 score. Tufts sophomore Jenn Duffy tied it on a free-position shot with 13:09 remaining before Kingsley's goal won it for the Jumbos.

Evers made 12 saves for Tufts, including eight in the first half. Bowser finished with six draw controls, four groundballs, and two caused turnovers. Tufts earned a 16-7 final count on draws. Casey Briody also caused two turnovers while Annie Artz collected three groundballs.

Kellie McLaughlin had three draw controls and caused two turnovers for the Mustangs. Jenna Schiponi also caused two turnovers. Mustangs keeper Maggie Lawder stopped nine shots, with seven saves in the second half.

The Jumbos out-shot Stevenson 19-10 in the second half after the Mustangs had posted an 18-9 advantage in the first, leaving the final totals tied at 28.
