KEENE, NH - The #11 ranked Tufts University women's lacrosse team scored eight straight goals late in the first half en route to a 23-7 win over Keene State College in non-conference action at Owl Atletic Complex on Wednesday night.
Tufts won its third game in a row and improved to 5-3. Keene State dropped to 3-5.
The Jumbos, who outshot Keene State 38-11, were led by five goals from Caroline Ross. Kate Mackin and Caroline Nowak both had three apiece, and Brigid Bowser, Megan Toner and Cecily Freliech each netted two.
Keene State got two goals apiece from Jenna Bellano and Taylor Graf, while the Owls also got one each from Samantha Sullivan, Samantha Ballard, and Taylor Farland.
Alison Argiro made seven saves in just over 30 minutes of action for the Owls, while Anna O'Brien made six stops. Audrey Evers was called upon to make two saves in 40 minutes of work in the Jumbos' net. Ruth Barry played the final 10 minutes.
Ross and Bellano traded goals in the opening four minutes, before the Jumbos edged out to 5-1 lead on the strength of two goals from Ross and two more from Toner. Sullivan and Graf sandwiched goals around one from Jenn Duffy to cut the lead to 6-3, but the Jumbos rattled off the next eight, going up 14-3 with 3:58 left on Mackin's marker. Bellano and Farland scored before the end of the half to cut the lead to 14-5 at the break.
Ballard scored 39 seconds into the second half to cut the lead to eight, but Tufts went on another scoring binge, going up 20-6 on Tori Rudnicki's free-position effort with 10:01 left. Graf netted the final KSC goal of the day on a free-position shot of her own before the Jumbos scored the final three goals of the game.
Tufts travels to Connecticut College on Saturday for a NESCAC contest that begins at noon. Keene State opens Little East Conference play by hosting Rhode Island College on Saturday at 1 pm.
