The victory improved Tufts to 7-1 on its spring trip, which wraps up tomorrow with a game at Virginia Wesleyan College.

Senior tri-captain Speros Varinos earned his third win on the mound during Tufts' trip, going five innings allowing four hits and two runs. The Jumbos received four innings of scoreless relief from their bullpen, including two innings by freshman Brad Marchetti allowing one hit with three K's.

Tufts started strong with three in the top of the first inning. Falkson singled up the middle, delivering Elias Varinos (infield single) home for the first run. Sophomore CF Casey Santos-Ocampo continued his great week at the plate with a two-run single.

The Builders closed the gap to 3-2 after two were out in the bottom of the fourth. Robbie Watkins walked, Darrius Harris singled to center and Mike Brumfield walked before Thomas Richardson came through with two-rbi single.

That would be all of the scoring for the hosts, however. The Jumbos took the lead for good with a five-run sixth. RBI's came from Harrison Frickman on a sac fly, Will Shackelford with a double, Oscar Kutch on a fielder's choice and Falkson with a double scoring two.

Down 8-2, the Builders left the bases loaded in the sixth as Jumbo junior Kevin Galasso came on and got a fly ball for the third out.

The Jumbos added four more in the eighth. Elias Varinos walked, stole second, went to third on Oscar Kutch's double and scored on a wild pitch. Kutch came around on Falkson's single, then Falkson and and Mike McLaughlin scored on Frickman's two-run single.

Frickman finished with three rbis while going 1 for 1 with two walks. Santos-Ocampo was 2 for 5 with the two rbis and a run. Elias Varinos batted lead-off and had a 2 for 5 game with two runs. Kutch scored three times while recording two hits. McLaughlin also had two hits.

Richardson (3 for 4, 2 rbis) and Brumfield (2 for 3) led Apprentice (16-11) at the plate. Starter Steve Hux took the pitching loss. Steven Conley finished the game getting four outs while allowing one hit and no runs.
