Raposo, Watanabe Post Top Performances as Men's Track & Field Competes at Bowdoin

Colin Raposo is ranked 13th nationally in the mile run

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Strong performances by veteran middle distance runners Colin Raposo and Hiroto Watanabe led the Tufts University men's indoor track & field team at the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

In the mile run, Raposo's 4:19.73 time finished second and ranks 13th on the Division III national list for the event. Watanabe posted the Jumbos' only win of the day in the 1,000 meters as he recorded a 2:31.40 time.

Junior Matt D'Anieri was right on Watanabe's heels in the 1,000 meters, placing second with a 2:31.63 time. He was just 0.23 behind the senior co-captain.

Raposo, D'Anieri and Watanabe were joined by junior Dylan McEniry for the Jumbo second-place 4x800-meter relay at Bowdoin. The posted an 8:08.92 finish.

Tufts had several second-place efforts overall. Senior Anthony Kardonsky's 22.81 was the runner-up mark in the 200 meters. Freshman Sam Oomen-Lochtefeld had a 51.69 second-place time in the 400 meters. Sophomore Matthew Manteiga had a 21'7 ¼" (6.58m) best in the long jump for second place.

The Jumbos finished 3-4-5 in the 800 meters, led by freshman Nicholas Delaney with a 1:59.70 time that is a top 50 mark in the national rankings. Junior Kevin Quisumbing threw 47'8 ½" (14.54m) in the shot put for third place.

Tufts was the runner up out of six teams at the meet with 101 points. They were behind MIT (206) and in front of third-place Southern Maine (81).

The nationally-ranked running marks set by the Jumbos are adjusted to a banked track time due to the NCAA Championships behind held on a banked track at Boston's Reggie Lewis Center this year.

The Gantcher Center at Tufts will be the site of the second annual Branwen Smith-King Invitational hosted by the Jumbos next Saturday.
