Four Score at Men's Outdoor Track & Field New England DIII Championships Friday

Senior Henry Hintermeister topped 190 feet in the javelin for the sixth time in his career.

WILLIAMSTOWN – Senior co-captain Henry Hintermeister led four Jumbos who scored on day two of the 2019 New England Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Williams College on Friday.

Hintermeister, classmate Andrew Doherty Munro, sophomore Matt Manteiga and freshman Ben Stein all scored as Tufts compiled 22 points on Friday. They are currently third in the team standings, behind MIT (47) and Bates (24).

Unleashing a 191'4" (58.33) season-best in the javelin throw, Hintermeister placed third at the meet. He improved his national ranking to 24th. Also in the field events, Manteiga was third in the long jump with a 22'3" (6.78m) mark.

Stein concluded a strong showing in the two-day decathlon event, finishing with 5,924 points for fourth place. The total is within the top 25 nationally. He scored 775 points on Friday with a 4:25.34 finish in the 1,500 meters, which was a personal-best. He also PR'd in the discus throw at 96'5" (29.39m) and accumulated 669 points in the 110-meter hurdles (16.58).

Doherty Munro ran a 31:56.31 PR in the 10,000 meters to finish fourth for the Jumbos.

Other notable efforts for Tufts included junior Christian Trebisacci hitting his PR with the team's season-best hammer throw of 156'11" (47.83m). Senior Anthony Kardonsky was one of eight qualifiers for Saturday's final in the 100 meters with a 10.93 time in the preliminaries on Friday.

Saturday is the third and final day of the meet, beginning at 10 am.
