BOSTON – The Tufts University men's swimming & diving team resumed the Boston Winter Open on Saturday at Boston University after competing in day one on Friday. The two-day event serves as a shave and taper meet for non-conference swimmers and divers.
Also competing at the meet were Boston University, Bates, Boston College, Brown, Holy Cross, MIT and Northeastern.
Edwin Liang-Gilman earned a first-place finish for Tufts in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:50.63. Fellow Jumbos Vedant Bapna (pictured) and Ethan Webster finished in second and third-place respectively. Bapna finished with a time of 1:51.63 while Webster finished right behind him with a time of 1:51.36. Liang-Gilman also competed in the 400-yard individual medley, earning third place with a time of 4:05.14 while Bapna got his second second-place finish of the day in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.56.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Alex Gu, Will Stearns, Luke Hruska and Michael Damelio finished in third place with a time of 1:25.14.
The Jumbos had two other third-place finishes on the day in the 200-yard breaststroke and butterfly. Bora Calis earned third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:06.27 while Sebastian Cai finished third in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:52.44.
In the time trials, James Kim competed in the 1650-yard freestyle (17:03.93), David Gelfand competed in the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.52), Julian Chun competed in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.44) and Stearns competed in the 50-yard butterfly (22.76).
The three divers to compete in the 1-meter diving event were all Jumbos and Ethan Cobos (272.60), Kai Renshaw (269.35) and Jacob Morales (221.70) finished in first, second and third-place respectively.
Next up for Tufts will be the NESCAC Championships that run from Thursday, February 17th to Sunday, February 20th.
