MEDFORD, MA (April 14, 2026) – For the sixth consecutive year, the Tufts University coed sailing team has received an at-large berth into the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Open Team Race National Championship.
On Tuesday night, the five-person national selection committee announced the 10 at-large teams that will join six conference champions for a total of 16 schools competing at the national team race regatta April 23-25. Tulane University will host the Championship out of the Libby and Robert Alexander Community Sailing Center, located at West End Park in New Orleans on Lake Pontchartrain.
The teams winning conference titles to receive automatic berths into Nationals were College of Charleston, Harvard, Navy, Northwestern, Stanford and Tulane. Joining Tufts as at-large selections were Boston College, Brown, Coast Guard, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Hobart-William Smith, Penn, Roger Williams and St. Mary's (Md.).
The national championship selection committee awarded the at-large berths based on team performances throughout the spring season. Six of the 10 at-large teams come from the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association – regarded as the strongest conference in the nation. At the 2026 New England Open Team Race Championship, Harvard was first, Brown second, Dartmouth third, Roger Williams fourth, Boston College fifth, Coast Guard sixth and Tufts was seventh.
Among a handful of good performances at team race regattas this spring, Tufts won the KP Open Team Race out of 10 teams at Kings Point. Penn, St. Mary's and Hobart-William Smith attended the competition. The Jumbos were also the first-place team at the Southern New England Team Race hosted by Connecticut College.

Tufts has been 12th at the ICSA Team Race Open Championship for the past two years. The Jumbos have won six team racing national titles, but not since 1996.
