MEDFORD, MA (April 21, 2026) – The first national championship event of the spring sports season for the Jumbos begins this week. The Tufts University coed sailing team competes at the 2026 Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Open Team Race National Championship in New Orleans starting on Thursday.

RESULTS
Tufts will be one of 16 teams competing for the Walter C. Wood Trophy as ICSA Team Race National Champions. The event runs Thursday through Saturday (Apr. 23-25), with Tulane University hosting the Championship on Lake Pontchartrain. Racing will begin at 10 AM each day.
If time and conditions allow, the Championship format will start with a round robin of all 16 teams. Next, a round robin of the top eight teams from the first stage will be contested. Finally, a round robin of the top four teams from Stage 2 will determine the champion.
Expected to start for the Jumbos this week are the teams of senior skipper
Ben Mueller with sophomore crew
Kate Castleberry, junior skipper
Wyatt Bischoff with junior crew
Sean Beaver and freshman skipper
Pearse Dowd with junior crew
Cody Lamoreux. Sophomore
Oliver Keeves, junior
Courtland Doyle and senior
Lilah Parker will travel as alternates.
Mueller will start for the Jumbos at the Team Race Nationals for the fourth straight year. Bischoff, Castleberry, Doyle and Lamoreux all competed for the Jumbos last season.
This is the sixth straight year that Tufts has qualified for the College Sailing Team Race Nationals. The Jumbos have been 12th at the last two Open Team Race Championships. In its history, Tufts has won six team racing national titles, but not since 1996.
